Abilities

Abilities

Oliver is, as a young Druid, coming into a set of powers that’re totally out of his spectrum of understanding. He’s able to heal plants that have wilted, and encourage plants that haven’t grown to grow. Without training, it’s basically a rogue power and gets pulled out of him as needed. If he walked into a grove of dying trees for example, the power to heal them all would just be pulled straight from him and would probably leave him flat on his back in a coma.

With training he’ll be able to direct this properly, and will be able to control how much of his resources he’s spending on it. With enough training, he’ll be able to heal plants just by picturing the plant and being near it, though for now he must be in physical contact.

He also has the ability to communicate with animals. Right now he can just hear their chatter, though as he comes into his power and trains his mind he’ll be able to talk back, and eventually with enough focus be able to heal them as well. Oliver does not need to be in contact with an animal to talk with them, but the more familiar he is with an animal and the closer he is to them, the easier it is. Eventually, he’ll also be able to learn how to shut OUT the voices in his head, so he can focus on just one or two, or have some damn peace and quiet.

Finally, animals are drawn to Oliver. He finds this incredibly annoying, because it’s rather hard to get any work done when you’ve got the rats that live in the building poking their little heads out to say hello. Tends to confuse people and gross other people out. It’s also hard to go for a job in central park when everyone’s dog and the mounted officer’s horses want to come over and say hello. With training, he’ll be able to control this too – or at least be able to tell the animals now is not a good time and to go about their business.
All of his abilities do come from his personal resources and will be less strong as he gets tired, and using them will exhaust him – especially if he’s trying to focus and do a specific thing. Healing exhausts him the most, talking with animals the least as it’s mostly just thinking the thoughts. An intense healing can leave him with flu-like symptoms for a few days, the lesser healings just needing a nap, etc.

comments
